The most important forum for maritime policy is the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Based in London, this UN body deals with a range of issues like ship safety and environmental impact of shipping. (doorklikken): With more than 10 years experience in the field of international policy development, I have a good understanding of the ins and outs of the IMO. From 2003-2014 I have coordinated a group of international NGO’s at the International Maritime Organization. In 2010 this group founded the Clean Shipping Coalition, of which I was President until 2014. The revision of Marpol Annex VI on air emissions was one of the topics we played an important role and I was asked to become a member of the IMO Scientific group of Experts to advise on Annex VI. For at least 10 years I he been directly involved with development of Dutch maritime policy.
