Shipbreaking

Shipbreaking: At the end of their working life, most ships end up on the beaches in South Asia, where they are broken up with primitive methods. Dangerous and dirty work, leading to casualties and pollution.

In 2006 I was one of the founders of the NGO Shipbreaking Platform. As coordinator of an NGO delegation at the  HongKong convention, I negotiated for a treaty on safe and clean ship breaking.
